Virtual Reality

FUNCTION

The purpose of VR simulate a virtual world, to create an immersion and pushed to its maximum the experience. The experience is offered in two forms: one in augmented reality, accessible from home on mobiles and tablets, and the other in total immersion, via a heavier logistics, which will be presented in festivals around the world. This is the promise of a journey inside the dreams, hopes and nightmares of all those soldiers who inherited conflicts that often existed before their own birth. This work makes it possible to perceive the extraordinary possibilities offered by virtual reality in the field of journalism in general,

documentary and investigation in particular.

- Characteristics:

Virtual reality is a computer-generated, multi-sensory human interface to computers. Virtual reality extends beyond the capability of typical workstation graphics in two ways. First, through the use of tracking sensors, the computer knows precisely the location and angle of the user's head, which enables the graphics scene to be generated in the correct perspective for each eye. Second, because a very wide-angle image is provided, which is updated 10 to 60 times a second and is often augmented with synthesized surround sound, motion, and even scent, a level of immersion in the simulated scene is achieved. Immersion, combined with correct perspective, allows the development of facile methods for navigation in three dimensions. Scene complexity is determined by the computer system's capability to display a great number of shaded, lighted, textured, and occluded polygons necessary to visually describe the many objects in the scene. Change to the scene is governed by the computer simulation program or database driving the creation of the scene. Thus, the visual quality of a VR experience is dependent on the speed of both the graphics-rendering hardware software and the computer system itself.

- Position:

Virtual Reality is still in development, that makes most of actual VR setups are prototypes and have some problems (ergonomic, impact on the health, ...). One of the big drawback of the VR is this technology is very expensive and not accessible to everyone, because in addition of a helmet you will need a powerful computer or a game console and for some setups you will need a large area for making movement. Instead of those problems the virtual reality, is after all a brand new and unknown technology and we have to learn about. This technology has a bright and promising future.
